Alex: How not to react under pressure

Pressure shouldn't be an ugly word. In fact, as a leader you'll want to have the skills to handle any sort of pressure that's thrown your way so you can react with a positive – and productive – strategy.

Being a leader means there's a certain amount of pressure that comes with the territory. That's just life. But the leaders we all look up to are the ones who deal with that pressure like water off a duck's back. Just how do they do that?

It's important to recognise that there are two types of pressure in the workplace. There's the internal pressure that we put on ourselves – telling yourself you always need to do more, that you should be able to handle this better, that you're the boss so the buck stops with you.Then of course there's external pressure – when you think that you won't be able to hit a deadline, that there are too many competing priorities, that there aren't enough hands on deck to do the job to an adequate level.

This video will help you identify the key drivers behind internal and external pressure. Armed with this knowledge, you'll be able to plan ahead and put in place strategies to overcome, manage or eliminate the pressure entirely.
